Psychotherapy · Brooklyn & Manhattan

Therapy for the relationships that matter most.

I believe meaningful relationships are at the heart of emotional well-being and overall life satisfaction. Whether with family, partners, friends, or colleagues, relationships require attention, care, and intentional growth. Through individual, couples, or family therapy, I help clients strengthen these connections and create healthier patterns of interaction.

My approach

Collaborative, strength-based, and built to last.

I take time to understand what has and has not worked for you in the past, building on the strengths and resources you already possess. Together, we create moments of understanding, connection, and insight within our sessions that can be carried into everyday life. Modalities

Individual, couples, and family therapy.

Individual

People often come to therapy because they feel stuck, repeating the same patterns, facing the same frustrations, or finding that the strategies that once helped them no longer work.

Our work focuses on understanding how those patterns developed and why they continue to show up in your life today. Together, we explore relationship dynamics, challenges with identity and self-worth, recurring emotional reactions, and coping skills that may have been effective at one point but are no longer serving you.

This is not about endlessly analyzing the past. It's about identifying the connections between past experiences and current struggles so you can make different choices moving forward.

My approach is direct, practical, and collaborative. We'll identify what's getting in the way, develop a clearer understanding of your patterns, and create concrete strategies that support lasting change.

Couples & Family

Most relationship problems are not caused by a lack of caring. They're often the result of repetitive patterns that leave both partners feeling misunderstood, disconnected, or frustrated.

In couples therapy, we focus on understanding those patterns and the impact they have on the relationship. We work on improving communication, addressing recurring conflicts, strengthening intimacy and connection, and creating healthier ways of responding to one another.

A key part of the process is learning to distinguish between motivation and outcome. Good intentions do not always lead to positive results, and understanding that difference can help couples move beyond blame and defensiveness toward meaningful change.

My approach is structured and solution-focused. Rather than getting stuck in arguments about who is right, we work to understand what's happening between you, why it keeps happening, and what needs to change for the relationship to function differently.

Parent Coaching

Practical support for parents and caregivers.

Parenting can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life, but it can also be one of the most challenging. When children are struggling, many parents feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or unsure of how to help. Rather than focusing solely on the child, I work directly with parents to develop practical skills, effective strategies, and greater confidence in navigating difficult situations.

Children's behavior does not occur in isolation. The way adults respond, communicate, set limits, and work together has a powerful influence on a child's emotional and behavioral well-being. Parent coaching helps caregivers understand what may be driving their child's behavior and learn new approaches that create lasting change at home.

Co-Parenting Through Separation and Divorce

Separation and divorce can be stressful for both parents and children. Even when parents share the goal of supporting their children, differences in parenting styles, communication challenges, and ongoing conflict can make co-parenting difficult.

I help parents develop healthier co-parenting relationships by improving communication, reducing conflict, establishing consistent expectations across households, and keeping children's needs at the center of decision-making. The goal is not for parents to agree on everything, but to create a more stable and supportive environment in which children can thrive.

Behavioral and Parenting Challenges

Many parents seek support when they are facing ongoing behavioral concerns such as defiance, emotional outbursts, difficulty following rules, anxiety, sibling conflict, or struggles with routines and transitions.

Through parent coaching, we identify patterns that may be contributing to these challenges and develop practical, evidence-informed strategies tailored to your family's needs. Parents learn tools for setting effective limits, responding to challenging behavior, strengthening parent-child relationships, and promoting emotional regulation and resilience.

A Collaborative Approach

Parent coaching is designed to be practical, supportive, and solution-focused. Together, we will identify your goals, build on your family's strengths, and create strategies that fit your values and circumstances. By empowering parents, we can often create meaningful and lasting improvements in children's behavior, emotional well-being, and family relationships.

Adoption Home Studies

Home studies for adoption, in all five boroughs.

I am registered with the New York City Family Courts in all five boroughs to conduct adoption home studies for second-parent, kinship, domestic, and international adoptions.

Home studies may be scheduled on Mondays, Fridays, and weekends. The home visit typically lasts approximately three hours, and all household members are required to be present.

Prior to the visit, I will provide a detailed list of the documentation required, along with instructions regarding acceptable formats (digital copies are often acceptable).

The completed home study report will be prepared within one week of the visit and provided for your review. Upon completion, you will receive:

  • A notarized copy of the home study
  • A notarized Affidavit of a Disinterested Person
  • A copy of my professional license
  • A copy of my résumé

The fee is $750 for the first child and $600 for each additional child included in the adoption process.

FAQ

Common questions.

I want to schedule a session but am not sure!

I invite you to schedule a session. In-person sessions are in Brooklyn Monday through Wednesday and in Manhattan on Thursday. Remote sessions are Monday-Friday. The initial session is half the fee so we can both decide if we are a good fit. Sessions are 55min with the option for 90min for couples if you prefer. To schedule please reach out via email or text to EmmaHareLCSW@gmail.com or 917-721-1028.

My schedule is not very consistent!

Therapy sessions are held weekly however meeting at the same day and time each week is becoming increasingly more difficult as people work hybrid jobs and manage busy lives. If that system works for you, you can absolutely secure a time slot that will be "yours" going forward. But if you prefer, we can schedule week by week or month by month to accommodate work travel and other commitments.

What is the fee and how do I pay?

Please contact me via telephone or email to discuss my current fees for Individual, Couples and Family Psychotherapy. I accept cash, HSA, or credit card.

What is the cancellation policy?

My cancellation policy is 48 hours however if you need to cancel with less notice and I am able to accommodate you within the same calendar week you will not be charged the fee.

Do you accept insurance?

I am not a member of any insurance networks and am considered an out-of-network provider. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with the required "R" certification my services are insurance-reimbursable via your out-of-network benefit. I provide monthly invoices, or "Super Bills" with all the information you need to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
